I’ve been designing and building websites professionally since 2011, mostly for small businesses and tradespeople, with clients in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Spain.
The genealogy side grew in parallel. I started researching my own family history, got drawn deeper into historical records, and eventually built several websites around it. The two strands turned out to have more overlap than I expected. Genealogy societies need the same things small businesses do: a proper web presence, reliable hosting, and someone who understands their audience and picks the right tools for the job.
These days I’ve stopped having a favourite tech stack. What matters is matching the technology to what the site actually needs to do and who it needs to serve.
