Common questions

Why not use a website builder like Wix or Squarespace?

You can, but you will pay a monthly fee indefinitely for a tool built for general use. My sites are designed for your practice specifically, hosted on fast servers you are not sharing with thousands of other sites, with no template fingerprint. For a professional genealogist, how your website presents you matters. A site made for your practice signals the standard of your work before a potential client has read a word.

What does the build price include?

The complete website designed and built to your brief: your services, specialisms and credentials, a client enquiry form, and any other pages your practice needs. SSL is included. The final price depends on the number of pages and what is involved. I will give you a fixed quote before any work starts.

What does the £15 per month hosting include?

Your site on my fast servers, SSL, daily backups, and support from me when something needs attention. It does not include content updates after launch. Those are available on request.

What about updates after launch?

Once the site is live it is yours. There is no maintenance contract. If you want something updated or added, get in touch and I will quote it. Simple changes usually turn around in a day or two.

How long does a build take?

Typically two to four weeks from a clear brief, depending on how quickly content comes together. I agree a timeline before I start and stick to it.

Can I update the site myself after it is built?

There is no dashboard for you to log in and make edits yourself. If you want to be able to update your own site without technical knowledge, a platform like Squarespace will serve you better. If you want a site made for your practice and are happy to send update requests through to me, that is exactly what I am here for.
